Biography:

Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Sandy Yawn attended high school in Brandon before going to get her degree for marine training at the Maritime Professional Training Institute in her hometown.

Throughout her professional career, the captain has been honored with accolades such as the International Superyacht Society’s Distinguished Crew Award in 2006.

In 2015, Yawn joined Bravo’s Below Deck Mediterranean for its second season. She has continued to lead the crew as they visited locations including Greece, Croatia, Italy, France and Spain throughout various charter seasons.

During her time on the reality show, Yawn has spoken about her decision to get sober after battling with alcoholism. She celebrated 33 years of sobriety in August 2021.

The captain has been dating gospel singer Leah Shafer since May 2019.
